High-precision, reliable measurement data and their global availability are the key to digitising and networking machines and systems according to Industrie 4.0, which is why the Beckhoff trade show presentation at Sensor + Test 2018 will focus on the PC- and EtherCAT-based, integrated measurement chain. It ranges seamlessly from the electrical connection of all common sensors to I/O modules in various protection degrees via the EtherCAT measurement technology fieldbus to the on-premises TwinCAT software modules.
The analog input terminals in the EtherCAT Terminal system make it possible to directly integrate the measurement functions into PC-based control technology from Beckhoff. In terms of accuracy, value precision, time precision, synchronisation and long-term measurement accuracy, the powerful EtherCAT measurement technology modules open up new possibilities that previously could only be implemented with the help of expensive dedicated devices. In line with Industrie 4.0 and IoT strategies, the measurement data collected can also be correlated centrally in network or cloud systems. With TwinCAT IoT, Beckhoff provides a software library for secure communication with cloud systems that enables device- and location-independent access to the measurement data. TwinCAT Analytics supports the recording and analysis of measurement data in the cloud, making it very easy to identify and document significant features in acquired signals.
